Energy Efficiency Alberta (EEA) is a government agency that was established as part of the Climate Leadership Plan. In November 2016, EEA announced several energy efficiency rebates would be available to homeowners in the spring of 2017. The press conference and subsequent launch of the EEA website indicated furnace replacement rebates and free installation would be included.
Listen to our radio commercials:
Many homeowners have held off on furnace replacement, expecting to receive the government rebate. However, EEA has clarified some parts of the program and it appears free furnace installation has disappeared. The original EEA website that listed free furnace installation has been amended to only include free installation on “products such as lighting elements, water fixtures and programmable thermostats.”
It remains to be seen exactly what will be included in the actual replacement rebates, as the EEA is only expected to announce formal details in April 2017. As of now, there are still many unanswered questions regarding the replacement rebates:
- Amount homeowners can expect to save with rebates.
- Process homeowners will have to follow to obtain the rebate.
- Which brands and models.
If you have spent the winter hoping your furnace remains operational and doesn’t breakdown before the rebates are available, stop waiting. You won’t know if you’re eligible for the government program or what the process will be until the spring and we still have a few months of cold weather ahead of us.
