Job Summary
As a New Home HVAC Finals Technician, you will be responsible for completing the final HVAC work in newly constructed and renovated homes. You will work independently in homes nearing completion, completing finishing work, identifying deficiencies, performing system checks, and ensuring our installations meet Weiss-Johnson’s quality standards.
This is a great position for someone with residential HVAC experience who enjoys troubleshooting, working independently, and seeing a job through to completion.
Key Responsibilities
HVAC Final Installation
- Complete HVAC final installations in newly constructed residential homes.
- Install and finish registers, grilles, thermostats, and other HVAC components.
- Complete HRV/ERV finishing and related HVAC components where applicable.
System Start-Up & Commissioning
- Complete furnace and HVAC system start-up and operational checks.
- Verify airflow, temperature, controls, and overall system performance.
- Commission HRV/ERV systems and confirm proper operation where applicable.
- Ensure equipment operates according to specifications and manufacturer requirements
Troubleshooting & Deficiency Correction
- Identify and correct HVAC installation deficiencies.
- Troubleshoot furnace, ventilation, controls, and airflow issues.
- Make necessary adjustments, repairs, and ductwork modifications.
- Verify corrective work is completed and systems are operating properly.
Documentation, Coordination & Communication
- Document HVAC deficiencies, repairs, adjustments, commissioning results, and completed work.
- Communicate outstanding issues, site conditions, and required corrective actions to supervisors and builders.
- Coordinate with supervisors, builders, and other trades to resolve installation conflicts and maintain project progress.
Tools, Equipment, Safety & Site Compliance
- Document HVAC deficiencies, repairs, adjustments, commissioning results, and completed work.
- Communicate outstanding issues, site conditions, and required corrective actions to supervisors and builders.
- Coordinate with supervisors, builders, and other trades to resolve installation conflicts and maintain project progress.
- Maintain accurate job documentation and support project schedules by completing assigned work on time.
Position Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve HVAC issues.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple homes throughout the day.
- Good attention to detail with a strong commitment to quality workmanship.
- Comfortable working with furnaces, HRVs/ERVs, thermostats, controls, ductwork, and residential HVAC equipment.
- Ability to communicate professionally with builders, supervisors, other trades, and homeowners.
- Reliable, organized, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Valid Alberta driver’s licence with a 5-year driver’s abstract
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous residential HVAC experience.
- Experience working in new home construction.
- Sheet metal or HVAC apprenticeship experience.
- Experience with HVAC final installation, start-up, commissioning, and deficiency correction.
- Experience with HRV/ERV finishing and commissioning.
- Familiarity with residential HVAC codes, manufacturer requirements, and construction standards
